DESCRIPTION

The starting point for this restoration was a very solid pick-up we purchased in Las Vegas with no rust, straight body and a strong drive-train.  All gauges, chrome, internal trim, etc. came with the truck and mere in good order. The Chev 283 has been completely rebuilt by our in-house engine builder, Craig 'Jackie' Johnston.  The new Edelbrock 4-barrel carby and a lumpy cam have been added and the engine now provide stacks of power which is put to the ground through a 12-bolt diff. The new 3-inch exhaust provides a tough note. The close ratio manual box in combination with the 'worked' engine results in a power plant that 'boxes well above its weight'.

We took the exterior back to bare metal before applying three different heritage-inspired base coats. First came red oxide, followed by cream and a green to finished off. Then we got to work sanding through the first two coats in strategic places...and bingo...50 years worth of wear and tear added in an hour. Everything was protected with a few coats of satin clear before adding some rather cool pin stripping and sign writing. The paintshop crew took a little artistic license and gave the roof and rear window surround some gloss 'lacing'.

The cab has been painted in a bright candy green including some more 'lacing' on the instrument surround...a little 'bling'! The seat, door cards and headliner have been finished in a traditional black diamond pattern. The 'big boy' style gear-stick has been topped with a very 'classy' Rat Fink gear knob. Keeping with the rat-rod theme, the tray is made of distressed boards and a set of buck-boards.

As the truck was our own creation we thought we had better name it...we decided on 'La Rata' (the rat in Spanish)!
